Selma to Montgomery

Today was a day of few miles, but many activities. The morning began with transport to a local high school, Dallas County School, home of the Dallas County Hornets, some 20 miles from Selma. There we met the student body in their gymnasium. Each rider made a brief statement about their involvement with the FPOL. After talking to the students we tossed tee shirts to them, along with wrist bands. We then were transported back to Selma for lunch. There we ate at a well known restaurant within sight of the Edmund Pettus bridge, made famous during the marches for voting rights in Selma.

Our next event also was at a high school. We had minimal time to ride on our bikes to get to the school before classes were dismissed, so we put the "pedal to the metal" and rode 22 miles over rolling hills at a very fast pace, arriving just in the nick of time.

Plans had been made to ride from there to Montgomery, but local citizens recommended that we not try to bike to Montgommery due to the high volume of traffic, so we were again transported, this time to Montgomery. There we were booked into a Renaissance Hotel, a very lavish facility. Later we took a trolley tour of the city, ending up at another fine food restaurant.

After overindulging on their local cuisine we returned to our hotel to rest and prepare for our ride to Auburn tomorrow.

Picvtures here are mostly from the Dallas County school. The giant fishing lure is from near our hotel in Montgomery, and the bridge and butterflies are from Selma.

And yes, by popular demand, there are two pictures of your blog master.
