Yesterday was such a late day that your blogger person did not work on this blog.
The day began with a trip to St. Jude's Catholic School where we spoke briefly to a student body of 7th and 8th graders about the Five Points of Life. After spending about a half hour with them we departed by bike to Auburn, a relatively short trip of 50 miles. We dined at Shakey's Pizza, whose staff was eagerly awaiting our arrival. Everyone had tomorrow's 110 mile ride on their mind, and spirits were somewhat subdued. We took a tour of the Auburn campus while we were waiting to get registered into our motel.
We ate dinner at 8:00 PM at the Auburn Renaisance Center, and did not retire until 10:30PM.
Tracy Walker celebrated her 50th birthday with her husband, who showed up to ride most of the route from Montgomery to Auburn
Today's 110 mile journey traversed miles of rural Alabama and Georgia roads. Hills were numerous and challenging. Sections of the route, especially the last 20 miles, had heavy truck traffic. This, coupled with a lack of a bike lane, made the final two hours of the day precarious, and forced each rider to pay close attention to traffic at all times.
One accident occurred during the ride today. Tracy Walker had her front wheel turned sideways on a very rough railroad crossing, causingf her to fall. She was bruised but not seriously injured. Her helmet saved her from serious head injury.
Tonight we dined in at the motel, eating food provided by Moe's of McDonough.
Tomorrow is a day off from riding. We have meetings at two schools in the morning, then a luncheon at Atlanta's Life South center, followed by a TV interview at 1:00PM. After that we will travel to Alpharetta, where we will spend the night prior to our next ride.
