Brandon to Kosciusko

The Natchez trail! What a delight to ride! 70 miles of smooth roads and little traffic. Today's blog has fewer photos because the photographer was busy trying to stay in contact with a fast group of riders. Although the mileage today was less than the first 2 days, the intensity of the ride made up for the reduced distance. The first ten miles had numerous long climbs similar to the terrain one encounters on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Five of us led the team for the first 40 miles. After a food break at the stop pictured here, two riders blasted off the radar, not to be seen again until the end of the ride. Then 4 of us continued along our merry way, trying to sustain a good effort while recovering from the first hard 40 miles. When we finished a reporter from the town of Kosciusko was waiting to take pictures and talk to us.

In case I haven't mentioned it, we have a tremendous support staff. Three vans and the trailer seen here and in other pictures leapfrog a mile or two down the road. As we pass they take pictures and have food and drink ready for us if needed. The large trailer containing food and drink is affectionately known as "big belly".

We ended our ride at a Days Inn. Dinner was at a local fish diner. Catfish, fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, and fried chicken livers were some of the delicacies we enjoyed. It seems strange but at the rate we are going, in spite of the exercise, we may return home heavier than when we started!

Tomorrow's ride will end in Starkeville, Miss. Tomorrow's meal will be at Little Dooey's Barbecue and Catfish diner! And so it goes. Here are a few of today's scenes. The long named rest stop is where we ate lunch. More Natchez Trace trail tomorrow.

Today's trivia question: Who was Kosciusko? Answer: A Polish general who fought with George Washington in the Revolutionary war.
