Orangeburg to Charleston

Another hard day on the road! The temperature at the start was 42 degrees, and the winds was howling out of the northeast. The good news is that we were headed south, southeast, so the wind was a crosswind, not quite a tailwind. We have lost most all the hills, the few remaining ones being bridges along the coastline, and hills from Palatka to Gainesville.

Charleston has potential as a shopping Mecca. We walked around the downtown area for about an hour before dining at the King Street grill.

Included here is a photo of Margaritaville, a Jimmy Buffet store. Also, pictures of our team in front of city hall, as well as yours truly. The sign shown here was at the entrance of a performing art theater.

Tomorrow we will ride to Savannah, a distance of 94 miles. However, rain is predicted. If it rains, we will likely ride in vans to Savannah.

My shoe remains more or less intact, unfixed, and hopefully will remain this way. We have not found a bike shop. Yesterday we found one in the phonebook in Orangeburg, but when we arrived there it was a Harley Davidson cycle shop! Apparently there is no distinction between cycles (eg. motorcycles) and bicycles.

The latest complications are two very annoying saddle sores that require re-positioning every few pedal strokes. Hopefully these will not get worse. Now we are headed south toward familiar territory. There will be a loud cheer when we enter Florida, for sure! Stay tuned.
