Clemson to Greenville; Greenville to Aiken

The ride from Clemson to Greenville was another cold and windy but uneventful day, with temperatures in the low 40's at the start. By all accounts it was the coldest, windiest, nastiest day of the ride thus far.

The Hyatt Hotel charged $15.00 for Internet access so I decided to skip working on this blog two days ago. That is why this is so far behind.

We then spent another day at Greenville, with riders split into teams who traveled to a variety of schools within a radius of 50 miles.

I spent the day with fellow rider Richard Brinker. We were taken to Greenwood, 50 miles south of Greenville, where we spoke about our connection with the FPOL to three high school classes of genetics, zoology, and chemistry. These classes were attentive, involved, and able to ask questions that were relevant.

We visited the Reedy Falls section of Greenville where I posed with a bronze statue of one of the town's prominent citizens from days past. The bridge shown here is held up by angular suspension cables, and sways in the wind or when people walk over it.

That night we were treated to a barbecued wings buffet at Wild Wings sponsored by the Blood Connection. The food and company were great. Then it was off to bed to get ready for the long ride from Greenville to Aiken.

We stopped along the way at the home of one of the marketing agents for Blood Connection. His family has 300 acres of fields and woodland. He presented us with new, as yet unreleased, Hincapie Jerseys as appreciation for our visit to their center in Greenville. Then it was back on the road for a long ride.

One mechanical note. The entire bottom of my right shoe has begun to separate from the shoe, and if I don't find a bike shop to het new shoes, I may not be biking very far today. If the shoe disintegrates, I will have to stop until I can find a source of new shoes.

Also, as part of the wonderful phone service I subscribe to, there is no cell phone service here, so I am unable to call those people that I regularly call each morning. Time to get a new phone provider. It is off to Orangeburg today. The weather is cold and windy again.

Great photos. Also, to paraphrase someone else's previous words, keep inspiring us to aspire to your strength and stick-to-it-iveness.
