In the Beginning

Just a few more days before our trek begins. This Friday we will have a large send off party. Monday we travel to Mobile. Tuesday we spend the day getting acquainted, checking our bikes, attending meetings, and charging our batteries for the long rides ahead. Having looked at the ride profiles from Mobile to Huntsville I can fairly safely say that the ride is not flat! There are hills and rolling terrain that will be sure to test the endurance and strength of every rider in the group. We will soon find out who has trained properly!

On Wednesday, the actual event starts at 8:00AM on the battleship Arizona. If all goes according to plan we will depart at 9:30 from the Arizona and travel out of Mobile with a police escort. That first night should find us in Hattiesburg, MIS.

My intention is to post regular updates and pictures whenever possible. The frequency of these will depend on the availability of Internet access along the way.

To quote a famous Chinese cyclist: "A journey of 2000 miles begins with a single pedal stroke."

This is all for now. Onward and upward!!

Be sure you have plenty of bag balm to sooth the way.
